Who is Kees Bakker ?

Born in May 1968 in the Netherlands, specialized in (documentary) film and television history and theory, doing research and publishing in these domains, I studied Philosphy (1987-1989) and Film and Performing Arts (1988-1993) at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and one year Cinéma et Audivisuel in Paris (Sorbonne nouvelle, Paris III). From 1994 to 2001 I was coordinator at the European Foundation Joris Ivens, responsible for the Joris Ivens Archives and the organization of retrospectives, seminars, film programs, exhibitions and other activities related to documentary film.

A function as Analyst (2002-2003) at the European Audiovisual Observatory (Council of Europe) in Strasbourg allowed me to settle in France.

At present I'm Director at the Institut Jean Vigo in Perpignan, France. Since 2006 I am also programming the Doc History section of the Documentary Festival in Lussas, France.

In the mean time I have been member of the editorial committee of Documentary Box and co-programmer of the Doc's Kingdom seminar in Portugal, and (from 1993 on) I have also been teaching film and television (history and theory, and documentary) at the University of Nijmegen, the University of Utrecht and the Dutch Film Academy and Cultural management at the University of Perpignan.

Né en mai 1968 aux Pays-Bas, spécialisé en théories et histoire du cinéma et de la télévision, et notamment en cinéma documentaire, faisant des recherches et publiant dans ces domaines, j'ai étudié Philosophie (1987-1989) et Cinéma et arts dramatiques (1988-1993) à l'Université de Nimègue, aux Pays-Bas, et une année Cinéma et audiovisuel à Paris (à Paris III). De 1994 à 2001 j'étais coordinateur de la Fondation européenne Joris Ivens, responsable des Archives Joris Ivens et l'organisation des activités autour de son oeuvre et autour du documentaire en général : rétrospectives, expositions, colloques, programmes de films, etc.

Un poste en tant que Chargé de recherche (2002-2003) à l'Observatoire européen de l'audiovisuel (Conseil de l'Europe) à Strasbourg m'a permis de m'installer en France.

A présent, je suis Directeur de projet à l'Institut Jean Vigo, à Perpignan. Depuis 2006, je programme également la section Histoire de doc du festival documentaire de Lussas.

Entretemps, j'ai été membre du comité éditorial de Documentary Box et co-programmateur du séminaire Doc's Kingdom au Portugal et, à partir de 1993 j'ai régulièrement enseigné l'histoire et les théories du cinéma et de la télévision, ainsi que du documentaire, à l'Université de Nimègue, l'Université d'Utrecht et l'Adadémie du Film à Amsterdam et l'Ingénierie culturelle à l'Université de Perpignan.
